AQUATA® Anti-Corrosion Coating

A solvent-free epoxy lining for steel in permanent contact with water, tested by BAW Karlsruhe.

AQUATA® Anti-Corrosion Coating

AQUATA® is a two-component, polyamine-cured epoxy with 100 % solids, so nothing evaporates during application. It was developed in the early 1980s for structures in contact with drinking water and has since been used in hydropower, marine and offshore work. The cured film is tough and flexible with very low water absorption and very high diffusion tightness, which keeps water and oxygen away from the steel. It is applied with heated two-component spray equipment by trained operators, to a specification that is checked by film thickness measurement and high-voltage pore testing.

  • ▸Solvent-free, 100 % solids: no solvent emissions and no loss of film during application
  • ▸Very high diffusion tightness, shown in the Delta-T impermeability test
  • ▸Tough, flexible, abrasion- and impact-resistant film with low water absorption and no swelling
  • ▸Excellent adhesion, and very good adhesion under antifouling
  • ▸Fast curing: can be immersed shortly after application, which keeps outages short
  • ▸Resistant to industrial and sea atmosphere, fresh, brackish and salt water, mineral and heating oils, fats and chlorine-free detergents
  • ▸Drinking-water approval from the Norwegian Ministry of Public Health, and no danger to aquatic life
  • ▸Independently tested by BAW Karlsruhe for a long protection duration (15 years or more) in fresh water, sea and brackish water and soil
  • Hydropower stations: pressure shafts and penstocks, inside and outside
  • Oil and gas storage tanks
  • Drinking-water storage tanks
  • Offshore installations
  • Ships, vessels and pontoons
  • Steel sheet piles and other marine structures
  • Wind-farm structures
